Sud Kivu: the transformation of Lake Tanganyika into a « dumping ground » deploredUvira, May 11th, 2023 (CPA) – The urban coordination of the environment has deplored the proliferation of garbage dumps on the shores of Lake Tanganyika in Uvira in the province of Sud Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to its coordinator, Francine Mwangaza Binti Sadiki, who spoke to CPA on Wednesday.
« The lack of dustbins in most of the plots in the city of Uvira leads the population to transform the shoreline of this lake into public dumps. The management of solid and biodegradable waste is a major challenge to overcome, » she said.
« We are sensitising the population to raise awareness so that everyone contributes to the building so that together we can make Uvira a clean city and thus protect the waters of Lake Tanganyika, » she added.
