Plea for the respect of the principle of parity in DRCKinshasa, May 11th, 2023 (CPA) – Respect for the principle of parity in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was the subject of a plea on Wednesday in Kinshasa by the vice-president of the Women’s League of the Movement for the Liberation of Congo (MLC), CPA noted.
« To date, parity in DRC remains an unfinished agenda. The parity law was enacted to allow access of women and men to public offices, as well as to professional and social responsibilities, » said the vice-president of the MLC Women’s League, Ms Denise Vila Malanda. She maintained that the principle of gender parity in DRC is provided for in Article 14 of the Constitution in these terms: »the State guarantees the implementation of gender parity in institutions », while recalling that the 2018 elections were not marked by significant progress for women.
